On Monday, October 26, 2015, an earthquake measured in at magnitude 7.5 struck northeastern Afghanistan. Although it hit Afghanistan, other countries such as Pakistan, India, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan were hit, killing dozens as homes and buildings were crumbling around them.

Although the earthquake has caused countless deaths across Southern Asia, other factors have contributed in the death count. A stampede in northern Afghan has trampled 12 school girls trying to evacuate their school. The girls, all around 10-15 years old, were crushed in the schools stairwell in Taluqan city, a district of Takhar Province.

As tragic as these deaths are, there is a body count of 272 in northwestern Pakistan while hundreds of others are injured. This brings the total deaths of all three countries of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India to 387.

Along with destroyed building, according to Wais Ahmad Barmak, the Afghan state minister for disaster management affairs, about 4000 homes were severely damaged or destroyed.

Due to these countless deaths and injuries, groups that are working to deliver aid to Afghanistan. However, they were afraid of Taliban attacks. This resulted in the Taliban saying Thursday, October 29, that it would not interfere with government led efforts to give assistance to the thousands of people suffering in the aftermath of the earthquake.

This would be the second time this week that the group pledged to cooperate and show support for the victims during the 7.5 magnitude earthquake on Monday, October 26.
