Famous. Flawless. Feminist.

The feminist movement is all but a new one. In the music industry however, it seems that feminism has recently made a large comeback.

What’s exciting about this particular boom in feminism is that, not only are we seeing an increase in the demand for the equality of women, but we are also seeing a higher recognition of equality for women of color.

Two musicians in particular seem to be leading this movement: Beyonce Knowles and Nicki Minaj.

Nicki Minaj’s hit single “Anaconda” mocks 1992’s “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot, taking what was a terribly sexist song, and reclaiming the body-style that was exploited in both the song and video.

Beyonce performed at the 2014 VMA’s in a way stated her body was her own, and projected the word “feminist” behind her while performing, with a voice-over announcing the definition of feminism.

These women are a true inspiration to the feminist community, and hopefully their statements will make a significant difference in today’s society.
