Freddie Freeman Visits El Mo
El Modena Alumnus Gives Back To His High School Program

On Thursday, February 9th, Freddie Freeman and 6 members of his immediate family, including his wife Chelsea and son Charlie, came to our baseball field to take pictures and meet with members of our school board, El Mo Administration, and our school’s baseball players and coaches. The Freeman Family recently donated $500,000 to our baseball program to build a new team clubhouse, and OUSD generously donated $500,000 to match Freeman’s donation. Most of you may know but, Freddie Freeman graduated from El Mo in 2007 and was drafted into the MLB straight out of high school. Every off-season, Freeman comes back to hit on our field and interact with the team, and he enjoys being back where it all started for him.
According to Deputy Superintendent, David Rivera, Freeman’s donation is the most generous contribution the district has received from a private donor. During the event on the 9th, the entire baseball program took a break from practice to show gratitude towards his family and OUSD. The new clubhouse will include a locker room, team meeting area, coaches’ office, and extended batting cages. The project is scheduled to be started this summer. As a member of the baseball program myself, I thank the Freeman Family and the district for their time and money.
