A Surprisingly Insightful Project from Lil Boat
Grammy nominated rapper and songwriter Lil Yachty recently released his magnum opus, a 14 song project titled “Let’s Start Here.” The album represents a complete reset of the artist’s style and aesthetic as Yachty shifts away from rap and into new styles such as psychedelic rock and synth pop.
Yachty’s wide vocal range and unique voice charge the album with emotion and elevate the project to a vibrant, almost experimental masterpiece. Yachty utilizes autotune techniques, like that of “Poland,” and features from r&b artists to complement his style.
The vibe of the album shifts between uplifting and dark and somewhat ominous. Some of the songs, like “IVE OFFICIALLY LOST ViSiON!!!!” feature introductions with sinister sounds and unsettling undertones but shift toward inspiring vocals from Yachty. These changes, along with motifs like love and maturity, add nuance and contribute to the cinematic nature of the piece.
