America’s New Pastime

A Deeper Dive Into The In And Outs Of Fantasy Football

America’s New Pastime

It’s football season in the NFL, which means it’s also fantasy football season. Over 40 million people in the United States alone play the popular football game. Online fantasy football was invented in 1997 by CBS and many other companies quickly followed suit.

Fantasy football is an interactive way for football fans of all ages to follow their favorite teams, and players and just have fun. Players are scored based on how well they perform in a game. For example, if Saquon Barkley, who is a running back, rushes for 121 yards and scores one touchdown he would earn 18.1 points. (each rush yard is .1 points and TDs are 6).

The three most popular apps to use to start your team are ESPN, Yahoo!, and NFL Fantasy.

If you’re looking to start a league just gather an even amount of your most competitive friends and start a league. Someone has to be the commissioner or “commish” of the league to set the rules and points scoring and after that is figured out you can schedule your league’s draft.

The most valuable players in fantasy football are Quarterbacks, Runningbacks, Wide Receivers, and Tight ends. You can also draft a team’s defense or a kicker, but their point totals are much lower than everyone else. Good luck this season, and make sure you don’t get last place- your league might have a brutal punishment.
