Hear Ye, Hear Ye, El Mo’s Athletes of the Year!

Two Athletes Who Have Been Excelling On and Off the Field for the Past Four Years

Juggling the demands of being a student athlete is a challenge for many, yet 37.6%  of our Vanguards persevere through the pain and stress in order to be part of something bigger. Two athletes who have truly gone above and beyond this school year are Dylan Conner and Mary Koutures

El Modena is proud to announce that our Athletes of the Year are two amazing seniors who embody the Vanguard way; excellence, leadership, and hard work are a few words that describe Mary and Dylan. Without the determination and dedication that these athletes have towards bettering El Modena, they would not have been able to achieve such a prestigious award.

Dylan Conner has been part of our great football program for all four years of high school, on varsity for 3, and has also been a thrower for the Track and Field team. He played left tackle in the fall and recently broke the 19 year old school record for discus with a whopping 180 feet and 3 inches at CIF.

Dylan plans on attending Eastern Washington University next fall where he is going to play football and possibly track, as well as major in business.

Mary Koutures has also been a dual sport athlete in her time here at El Modena; she played both water polo and lacrosse all four years. Not only does Mary dominate in the pool and on the field, but she is also a star student, with a 4.48 gpa, one of the highest in the Class of 2022.

Next year Mary is studying environmental science at the University of California Los Angeles. She has cherished her time at El Modena being involved in Women’s League and Nature Club. Her favorite memory from her time here as a student athlete was “Going to CIF freshman year with my team, we bonded and made a lot of great memories.”

When asked what motivated her to work hard and stay motivated through stressful times of juggling school and sports, Mary said “My family and teammates motivate me through hard times in sports and school. I know that all my teammates and coaches have my back and the support pushes me to perform to the best of my abilities.”

Mary and Dylan have made El Modena proud through their incredible hard work and commitment to excellence at our school.
