Frontline Finds
El Modena’s First Thrift Store
On Saturday, February 26, 2022, Frontline held their first thrift shop event from 8:00-12:00 P.M. Vanguards stopped by and looked around, purchasing what stood out to them. The fun will soon be revived. Future events run throughout the year at various pop-up stores during and after school. The next event was on March 22nd from 1:30-3:30 PM. Compared to the other thrift stores, the prices run fairly cheap. At other thrift stores, a shirt can cost $3-4. However, it can be three to four times as much as a shirt at Frontline’s thrift store. Our prices are incomparable- ranging from $1 for a shirt or pair of pants to “High-end” costing $2-5. If you bring a bag of clothes, the prices drop to $0.50 The proceeds of the thrift shop fund the Frontline Journalism production of newspapers and future projects made for the whole of El Modena to enjoy. Thrifting has been a significant contributor to modern-day high school fashion. Especially at El Modena High School, it is commonly heard among even the most fashionable students “Oh I thrifted this,” making us a large thrifting community. Good habits make a great society and world. Reducing the world’s production of clothes, reusing them, and upcycling articles of clothing, creates a world of less waste and rubbish. Pondering about their ecological impact on the world, one is more conscious of their consumption. Getting our clothes second hand, we reduce production of clothes that should be worn multiple times by different people with similar or different styles. The clothes were donated directly from the community: friends and family of the Vanguards and more. For preparation, the Journalism class spent their time sorting through various articles of clothing. From intricate luxurious dresses to the average Joe’s jorts, the writers and photographers of Frontline sorted garments based on size, color, and type. We appreciate those who donated their clothes to supply the goods because without the products, our thrift shop wouldn’t be able to run. Thank you to the Journalism class who spent their time sorting clothes, preparing for the event. The largest appreciation especially goes to Mrs. Katevas and Mrs. Mull who allowed everything to happen. |
