El Modena’s Football Jersey Retirement

The Meaning Behind This Great Tradition

Every school year, after the football season is done and finished, El Modena Football holds their banquet, where the annual Jersey retirement of a player takes place. This tradition has been a part of El Modena football since the 2016-2017 season, with the first Jersey Retirement  being Dillon Keefe, #44.

After that, the Jersey retirement of a player occurs for one year, where it is hung in the weightroom of the football players known as “the cage.” The football coaches choose a senior that exemplifies all of the qualities of a true ElMo football player. Ths player may not always be the best player on the field, but a player who has continuously been in the program, exemplifies their dedication, and is a good and coachable leader.

This player is someone who stands out to the coaches, and is deserving of having their jersey retired for one season. This 2021-2022 football season, Jackson Keays #8, the varsity quarterback, had his Jersey retired.
