The Cheery Spirit of America

El Modena Cheer and Pom Members Perform in New York’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

El Modena’s Cheer and Pom performances do not just entertain students at school and at games—they impress people across the country. This year, more than 25.4 million people tuned into the 95th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, many watching some of our talented cheerleaders do a synchronized performance through the streets of New York City.

Earlier this year, the Pom team and Varsity and JV cheerleaders earned this unique opportunity by submitting an incredible audition to Spirit of America Productions, the company that would later host over 600 of the best cheerleaders from across the country at the parade.

This long-anticipated opportunity took 16 of El Modena’s cheerleaders of all grades to explore the glamor of the Big Apple in an intensive, yet enthusiastic environment. They attended musicals and toured the city, visiting the subway, the Empire State Building, Times Square, the 9/11 Memorial, the Statue of Liberty, and Central Park.

While they had time to capture the essence of New York, they also practiced long hours for several days to prepare for the day of the parade. They all gathered in a large ballroom to rehearse the dance with hundreds of other performers.

In the end, it all culminated in a successful performance that became a part of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade history.
