Car Corner: 1998 Toyota 4Runner

Our eyes remain glazed on the road, not caring to do so much as flick to the side to observe the endless sea of black, white and silver cars. Luckily though, our eyes get the pleasure of seeing a flash of that dashing 2020 Crosstrek cool khaki gray color on senior Mayson Gilmore’s custom-painted 1998 Toyota 4Runner, adding a smile to every driver’s face.

Gilmore’s 4Runner is definitely one of the unique wonders of the El Modena parking lot. Sporting 2020 Toyota 4Runner wheels and impressive 31-inch tires, the car is capable of some serious offroading.

Adding to the car’s offroading capabilities are the car’s heavy-duty suspension system and four wheel drive function. Gilmore has not really taken her 4Runner off the asphalt yet, but when it hits the trails, it is sure to demolish any obstacle.

With the capacity to seat more than five people and hold a considerable amount of paint supplies in the trunk, the 4Runner has plenty of room to house its special decor. Gilmore has added fake band stickers ranging from Sev’ral Timez to Hep Alien to the back window and has hung Halloween tinsel on the inside.

Gilmore is not finished modding her 4Runner. In the near future, she plans on replacing the regular brown leather seats with a custom blue stitching that will complement the color of the car.

In all of this, the 4Runner retains its glory as it navigates El Modena’s “Parking Lot Red Carpet,” attracting the attention of every student and staff member.
