Music that Captures the Universe
A song so “Dope” it’s a “Hymn for the Weekend”
Do you know what happens when you mix the British rock band Coldplay and South Korean boyband BTS together? You get a new single that debuts at the top of both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200 charts that has amassed over 8.5 million streams worldwide.
A brand new song that is made through the collaboration of Coldplay and BTS, the song is sung partially in both English and Korean and was released as a single that is a part of Coldplay’s ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres.
The song, “My Universe” by Coldplay feat. BTS was created when Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, received a message about how BTS wanted to collaborate with him. Chris Martin would then create a demo of “My Universe” and travel to South Korea to work on the finalization of the song with BTS.
In South Korea, Chris Martin was able to work with all seven members of BTS: RM, Jungkook, Jin, Jimin, V, Suga, and J-Hope in recording the track and was able to release the song with two alternate versions, the acoustic version and a remixed version (“My Universe: Supernova 7 Mix”).
This song brings a sense of freshness for fans of both bands as this song is Coldplay’s second chart topper since “Viva La Vida” in 2008 and BTS’ 6th since “Permission to Dance.”
