Should We Now Be Afraid of Sandworms?

Dune, which is projected to be one of this year’s biggest blockbusters, was released on October 22nd in theaters alongside HBO Max, which released the movie one day prior. The Sci-Fi film directed by Denis Villeneuve, based on Frank Herbert’s novel, is stacked with great stars including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Oscar Isaac

The first book, of the six-book series, was published in 1965 and continues to be one of the most popular and influential science fiction novels of all time. The Dune series was in fact one of George Lucas’s original inspirations for “Star Wars.”

The film adaption of Dune will be broken into two feature films and the first movie focuses only on the first half of the first book. The plot of the movie is about the galactic power struggle between families mainly focusing on the character Paul Atreides, portrayed by Timothée Chalamet.

The visual effects in Dune, including the giant sandworms splashing through the desert, give the movie great suspense as it feels like these creatures are real. Dune also features several explosive fight scenes but also does a great job appreciating the quiet moments like Paul Atreides’ dreams.

Even if you are not a science fiction fan, Dune is a great film to appreciate for its beauty. Dune’s cinematography is gorgeous throughout the film and features a masterful soundtrack that truly immerses you into the movie.
