Vaccine Update

Recent updates relating to the status of vaccines

Three vaccines for Covid 19, Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J, have been released. J&J had been on pause due to reports of blood clots, but is now back in use.

In the meantime, Pfizer has started testing on young children, some as young as 6 months. The side effects so far are the usual drowsiness and a sore arm like the rest of the population, though trials are still underway.

Since vaccinations have been approved for 16+ on April 15th, appointments have been averaging 16,000 to 17,000 a day.

If positive trends continue, California’s economy will open around June 15, though the mask mandate will continue until further notice.

Vaccine “passports,” paper or digital documents that allow vaccinated people, as well as those who tested negative, into concerts, sport games, etc. have been attracting attention. Though California health officials have repeatedly stated they have no plans to distribute such passes, they did announce that businesses hosting indoor live events could host more people if they have some sort of proof of vaccination or a negative test.
