Let the Kids Play… or Not?
CIF Southern Section has once again postponed fall sports until further notice
One question racing through the minds of high school athletes and coaches in recent weeks has been, “when can we play?” With another recent surge in COVID-19 cases, the California Department of Public Health has postponed the issuance of its updated youth sports guidance.
What does this mean for high school seasons set to take place in the fall? The California Interscholastic Federation, otherwise known as CIF, has postponed full practice and competition until after January first of next year.
El Modena athletic director Ed Drzanek weighed in on the postponement. “I am hopeful that we will begin to play games by late January. This would allow most conferences to play a full league schedule and battle for both league and CIF divisional championships.”
Coach D also commented on the way active sports have responded to the recent news. “I would like to thank our coaches who have done an incredible job of motivating and preparing our athletes to compete. I am also proud of our athletes, on how they have handled all the adversity through these challenging times. Continue to prepare and work hard. Continue to represent!”
Our athletes and coaches are all hopeful that fall sports, as well as future sports, will be played in some capacity this year. And no matter what new challenges we face, the Vanguards will continue to work hard while following the necessary guidelines.
