Virtual VMAs
Music’s First Socially Distant Award Show
On August 30th, Keke Palmer hosted MTV’s 37th annual Video Music Awards (VMA’s). The evening differed from a typical award show due to the current pandemic.
Guidelines were put in place in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved, meaning there was no in-person ceremony. The show was live streamed and still managed over 6.4 million viewers
The evening’s star studded lineup included performances from Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, BTS, Doja Cat, and The Weekend. They took the stage at different venues across New York City.
The evening’s biggest winner was Lady Gaga with ten nominations and six wins including artist and collaboration of the year. Awards were presented and accepted both online via a video call and in person.
The VMAs are the first of many unusual award shows that will take place this year.
