Against the Border Wall

America does not need a wall

Via Internet

Since President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, he has wanted to build a wall on the U.S. southern border. Throughout the last two years of his campaign/presidency, Trump has tried to divide the country through scare tactics, claiming immigrants are “infesting” our nation and are only “drug dealers, criminals, and rapists.”

The wall would symbolize hatred towards immigrants who are seeking asylum. It is not illegal to apply for asylum. America symbolizes a melting pot of immigrants from different cultures and races that have come together to create a strong nation.

What is the point of having the Statue of Liberty represent freedom when America builds a wall preventing non-American citizens from obtaining their American Dream.

The last couple of months Trump tried to bring up false statistics that there were 4,000 terrorists apprehended at the border when there was zero. Undocumented border crossing are at a 20 year low. There is no emergency.

Trump openly campaign Mexico would pay for the wall but over time denies the fact that he ever said that. But Mexico rejected to pay for the wall. Trump wants the government and taxpayers to pay for a five billion dollar wall. Why should Americans pay for a wall 59% of the U.S. population is against?

Trump recently took a trip to Texas, where there is an existing wall. During his visit he was debriefed by Texas border control that there was a tunnel found underneath the wall. This proves spending five billion dollars on a wall will be ineffective and a waste of money.

If there really was a border crisis, he would have built the wall in his first two years of presidency when the Republicans had the House and Senate. Since it was never important before it isn’t important now and should not cause a government shutdown.
