The El Modena Vanguard baseball team has had a successful 2018 season. The team’s record was sixteen wins, ten losses, and one tie. In league, the Vanguard’s record was four wins and five losses. Eleventh year head coach, Coach Kliner says, “We have a great group of senior leadership this year. Nothing has gotten in their way.”
“Everything has been going well,” senior Austin Allen says,“Our pitcher, batters, and fielders have been performing really well.” The Vanguards’ winning streak earned them second place in league and the team played in the first round of CIF. However, after losing to Tustin High School, the Vanguard baseball season is over. But that doesn’t diminish the successful season the boys had.
Senior Isaac Chacon attributes this success to the coaching staff, saying, “They just help me learn and develop and mature as a baseball player overall.” The coaches have worked the players all season to become the best as both a player and a person . “Whenever someone makes a mistake, we are picking each other up,” Allen says.
The success achieved by the 2018 Vanguard baseball team rivals past successes. Coach Kliner says, “Every season takes its own shape. I’m proud of the way the guys this year have been able to bounce back from deficits and keep their composure.”
