Throughout her three years at El Modena, junior Aubrey Adams has participated in mock trial as a pretrial attorney. Her hard work and dedication has earned her a county-wide recognition.

Before a trial begins, Adams debates with the other side’s pretrial attorney, persuading the judge to either include or disclude evidence that could possibly incriminate the defendant. She makes use of previous court cases similar to hers to support her argument and oppose the other side.

The judge questions her reasoning and she must come up with arguments on the spot for justification. This proves difficult, as she must know arguments supporting both prosecution and defense.

At her most recent mock trial competition, as well as many others in the past, she won the MVP award. Pretrial arguments require quick thinking and the ability to communicate your thoughts in a sophisticated and organized way, while persuading at the same time. With the help of her coach Nisha Verma, it seems Adams has mastered this feat.

Because of her excellent performance this year, the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County has named her the top pretrial attorney in Orange County. On February 8, she will attend a ceremony and receive the award.
