Dominate the Day Doesn’t End After Season
Vanguard Football dominated not only on the field, but in the awards and recognition from the North Hills League
El Modena defeats Don Lugo for the CIF Championship 35-7.
After the El Modena Vanguards went 12-3 in the 2017 season, it’s not surprising that the North Hills League recognized the team’s achievements.
Three out of the five MVP’s for the North Hills League came from El Modena’s Football team. senior quarterback AJ Esperanza was named the North Hills League Player of the Year, senior running back Andrew Carvajal was named Offensive Player of the Year, and senior linebacker Josh Smith was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Vanguard Football also achieved their goal of winning CIF in a blowout against Don Lugo High School, final score: 35-7. This had been the first CIF victory for the team in 33 years.
Incase fans didn’t get their fill of football, you can come watch seniors Justin Simpson, Owen Marcyan, and Joseph Russo play in the upcoming OC All-Star Classic Game. The El Modena players will be playing with head coach, Matt Mitchell, along with other players against the Southern Team on January 27, 2017.
Recently the league came out with the list of players who were on First Team All-League Honors. Several Vanguards were named, including: seniors Josh Smith, Angel Alcala, J.P. Walker, Lee Groover and juniors Wyatt Terlaak and Ryan Smith,
