Model UN, or Model United Nations, is an El Modena club in which students participate in learning about the ways in which governments and the United Nations interact. Many schools across the country offer this educational opportunity, either as a club or an elective.

Students who participate are assigned a country to represent for one or two particular issues. These students then engage in interacting with other students who represent other countries, but for the same topic.

The Vanguards Model UN team began recently, and is currently led by a group of seniors along with a handful of juniors and sophomores. The club is looking to grow its numbers and participants for next year, due to the number of seniors leaving after this year.

The club offers appeal to anyone interested in government, politics, or international relations. The El Modena team takes part in tournaments around all different areas.Teachers and faculty assist the students throughout the process of preparing and entering tournaments. Mr. Benner, Ms. Sutherland, and Ms. Kines all allow the students in Model UN to thrive in the confrontational environment.
