I’m sure many of you noticed the flyers around school advertising a meeting about a possible Lacrosse team forming at El Modena next year. Frontline had the opportunity to sit down with Athletic Director, Ed “Coach D” Drzanek, and ask him a few questions about the Lacrosse program.

 

Regarding the idea behind starting a Lacrosse team at El Modena, Drzanek said “We see that it is a popular, growing sport. It is very popular in South County, as well as in North County, where schools like El Dorado and Servite have Lacrosse teams. We were approached by the Orange Unified School District, along with Canyon High School to be the pilot schools for a Lacrosse program in OUSD.”

 

There was an informational meeting on Monday the 24th at 6:00 PM, where about 50 students came, most of which were 8th graders, interested in playing as incoming freshman. There will be both a boys and girls lacrosse team, and it will be a spring sport. The team is planned to practice at Prospect Elementary, and games would likely be evenings at Fred Kelly Stadium. In regard to the team forming and building a coaching staff, Coach D said, “There are still a lot of logistics to be ironed out, we start with the interest, and go from there.” The hopeful start date is the 2017-18 school year.
