On February 10th El Modena hosted one of its popular coffee nights. The theme of this particular event was Valentine decorations due to Valentine’s day being right around the corner.

The show was entertaining and the audience was lively– and large as well. A loud applause accompanied the end of every act and there was a huge amount of support for every performer.

The show featured 30 acts. There was all sorts of talents displayed from the students of El Modena, from singing, to gymnastics, to playing instruments with great skill. Some students played together, some were solo, and there were even a few fully fledged bands.

The bands that played included The Sidewalk Chumps, Mortis, Greasy Knives, and Modern Company.

The Sidewalk Chumps announced that it was their final Coffee Night performance before playing their set. They blew away the audience with two original songs and a cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.”

Mortis played some fresh original tracks to open the show and get everyone excited.

Modern Company performed “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers and “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

Greasy Knives performed Vance Joy’s “Riptide.”

There was a raffle for some set pieces to fundraise for choir, flowers were being sold to support band, and singing valentines were for sale to support choir as well.

It was a very interesting show with a lot of variety both in music and performances in general. The crowd was genuinely excited and supportive of the performers and it was just a positive environment for artists. One would be crazy to pass one of these shows up, they’re a total blast. The next Coffee Night will take place next school year and going supports El Modena’s choir and band, and provides a ton of fun. It’s a no brainer two birds one stone situation.
