FRONTLINE: What is one thing that you do before walking on stage?

CASSIDY CONTRERAS:  I get really nervous before go on stage, so I find the people I have lines with before I go on and practice our scenes a few times before we go on stage.

FL: How do you deal with the audience looking at you, all at once?
CC: When you’re on stage, you have to stay in character at all times. Focusing on my character and what’s going on in the scene has always helped me get my mind off the audience.

FL: Because you have many lines to memorize, what is your go to technique to help you?
CC: The best thing I’ve done is going over my lines repeatedly, which is completed by the rehearsals and some outside reading at home.

FL: What is one activity that you do to help boost your stage confidence?                                        CC: The best thing I’ve done is just becoming my character. When reading lines, it is not only your job to memorize your lines. But to also figure out how your character would say the lines, what facial expressions they have, ect. Just become absorbed in who your character is, demonstrate it, and that’s how you execute “confidence”.

FL: Which play has been your favorite to act in? CC: I really liked playing Miss Prism in The Importance of Being Earnest. She was unique from other roles I’ve played and it was nice to take on that challenge of impersonating who she is.

FL: What is one tip you could give to others when they are playing a role? CC: Don’t stress. Just look deeply into your character. The smallest details make a difference in how the audience perceives who your character is. So just take some time to figure out who your character is, practice your execution, and don’t worry about performing. You’ll be fine.

FL: What is your greatest strength while performing? CC: Like I mentioned before, I think I’ve done a good job at figuring out who my character is and being able to execute it through minor details and overall present my character decently accurate.
