It was 8A.M. on September 24th. El Modena’s brand new Model U.N. team was heading off to Santa Margarita Catholic High School for their very first caucus.

Representing Zimbabwae and Vanuatu, the team was placed in the Not Freshman category; a category for those new to Model U.N. but were not freshmen. The feeling of unpreparedness was very common among the group but they were reassured this category would guide them and teach them how a usual caucus goes.

The experience itself was nerve wrecking, but El Mo’s M.U.N. club president, Jacob Kaufman, explained how “The dynamic of collaboration and competition makes it a unique experience.”

The team stared off with a promising future, with Anne Mast and Petra Azar winning commemoration awards. Although none won the best delegate award, many team members were a few points off from receiving the commemoration award as well.

The team hopes to attend more caucuses not only to advance their skills as a Model U.N. delegate, but as well as to experience new settings or people and to create solutions to real life problems that are affecting our world today.
