With an all Latino cast, people are very excited to see what Pixar has in store for this movie. Set in Mexico, the upcoming original film Cococenters on Miguel, a twelve-year-old musician who ends up lost in the Land of the Dead. One of the first times that Pixar decided to feature an all Latino cast. Director Lee Unkrich, said it was important to have an all Latino cast since the beginning. Unkrich said “”It focused us, and we ended up with a fantastic mix of people—some from Mexico and some from Los Angeles.” “Coco” includes many talented people such as Benjamin Bratt, Gael García Bernal, and Renée Victor; as well as newcomer Anthony Gonzalez.

Although some might compare “Coco” to “The Book of Life,” it should be known that just because the movies feature the same holiday doesn’t mean they feature the same plot. There are a handful of movies with the same holiday plot: Christmas movies and families, Valentine’s Day movies and characters finding “the one.” It also doesn’t mean anyone shouldn’t support the movie, because they’re the “same.” Dia de los Muertos is a very special holiday in Latin America, it’s about time a big company, such as Pixar, recognized it. Representation is incredibly important to marginalized communities, it’s crucial other diverse cultures are displayed on the big screen.
